Jonathan Fong designs interiors, floral displays, craft projects, weddings and more, but what he really loves to do is teach people how to create things for themselves. Shoe Attitude is his big idea on how to give some attitude to your shoes by incorporating decorative stickers made from your own images. Whatever it is, we all have to agree the whole thing is pretty entertaining, probably because Jonathan’s motto is to “Live life as if you were in a movie” and his movie is Xanadu – and he’s doing a great job! Remember the Hula Hoop Rug craft projects? When Esther caught site of one she knew it could be altered to create a giant spider web for Halloween. You’ll need a hoop that you’re not going to be using – a great time to repurpose and recycle, along with a bundle of twine/jute string and scissors. Read more:

When everybody got excited about the new Chanel Hula Hoop Bag at Paris Fashion Week, Jenna Sauers at Jezebel got excited about making one. She writes, “As soon as Karl Lagerfeld showed those ridiculous(ly sublime) hula-hoop bags on the Chanel runway for spring, my colleague Dodai and I knew we had to make one. ‘It’s not up to me to say it is chic,’ said the always-modest Chanel designer after the show. ‘I thought it was, but I cannot say it myself.’ Well, Karl, we thought it was chic! So, we boned up: we studied runway photographs in extremely high resolution, talked a lot about lambskin, watched videos of the bag in motion, and tried our best to channel the spirit of Karl himself. Then we poured some gin, put on some Kraftwerk, and began our craft work. Read more:

Linda from Party Craft Secrets knew what to do when her daughter tolder her “my hula hoop doesn’t work any more”. The hoop had been squashed in a door and become a little square shaped. Rather than toss into a landfill, Linda writes, “inspired by many extremely beautiful beribboned canopies on the internet”, decided to make one of her own. “I suddenly remembered a bag full of streamer odds and ends that had been torn down from previous crafting experiments and left for a rainy day… or a sunny day as it turned out!” In 15 minutes and using some wool to hang the hoop and a stapler to clip the streamer-bits in place, they made magic.

Got an old hoop laying around you’re not going to be doing anything with or one that you cut wrong that wasn’t the right size? Why not reuse, recycle and repurpose it and turn it into something useful – like making your own hula hoop chandelier? Sarah writes, “I was so excited to make this. I wanted my Sun Porch to have ‘romantic’ lighting. The setting is romantic out there to begin with. There are woods in my backyard, crickets and birds singing. The sun sets behind the house and the breeze blows right through the whole area.” Her solution? A hula hoop chandelier.
